Secrets of the Month of Safar and to Enter into The Cave (Opening of #18)
online http://youtu.be/Fg9b-iT4Zzc
Aoodhu billahi min ash Shaytani ‘r-rajeem, Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmaani ‘r-Raheem.
From The Teaching of Madad al-Haqq Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani (q).
9 |
But we have to enter through nine, so Surah Tawba (Chapter 9 of Holy Qu’ran), is teaching us that you have to make a repentance, you have to sacrifice yourself, repent and that at every moment our life is a repentance, that, “I am falling short, I am falling short, I am falling short. Forgive me, my Lord.” That, we are not claiming to be perfect, we are asking to recognize our faults and move into that reality.
Surah 18:1 Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave,
and hath not placed therein any crookedness,
18 |
These are twelve veils, when you take a reality, from timeless and bring it into time, so then they are teaching us that if you relate those two, those twelve veils (relate) to the twelve months in dunya, because Allah Azzah wa jal has no time. When He is dressing Prophet (s), that is an eternal dress that is eternally dressing Prophet (s) with these twelve hijabs, these twleve realities.
So then they begin to teach us that in the second month, the second lunar month is the reality of nine plus nine equals eighteen. The secret of al-Hayaat (life on Earth), and Hayba and all these oceans of eighteen that are opening.
So you look at the eighteenth surah of the Holy Qu’ran which is Surat al-Kahf. So then they are teaching us that we entered from the Tawba moving to ashaab al-Kahf (people of the Cave). We are asking to enter into that Cave, to be dressed from the reality of that Cave.
Surah 18:9 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription
are a wonder among Our portents?
The Ashaab al-Kaaf are these big AwliyaaAllah { The Men of God/ Allah who ran away from the tricks and snares of Shaytan and are Men in the Eyes of God/ Allah}.
There are seven in the presence of the one, and that one is Sayyidina al-Mahdi (as); the seven eternal realities that are being dressed by that reality and we are asking, “Yaa Rabbee, we are not going to be from those seven, but we are asking to accompany those seven,” to accompany the Ashaab al-Kaaf, and that is the Cave that we are asking to enter into. We are asking to enter into that reality and that is why the dress of Hayba begins to shake us and perfect us.
Surah 18: 10 Ith awa alfityatu ilaalkahfi faqaloo rabbana atina minladunka rahmatan
wahayyi/ lana min amrinarashada
When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said:
Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight.
With Allah’s Might and Majesty, how can we enter into that Cave with bad characteristics? So then, this month (Safar) comes and begins to cleanse and perfect us.
And we look to the right hand and our right hand is stamped with a “one” and an upside-down “V” which in Arabic (numerals) is eighteen 1/\ . So then our right hand is stamped with that eighteen. Allah Azzah wa jal is teaching us that you have been created for that reality. You have been created to serve that reality; eighteenth
The eighteenth name of IsmAllah (Names of Allah) is Al-Fattah (The Opener).
Sayyidina Muhammad (s) is ar-Rahmah (The Compassionate), Nabi ar-Rahmah.
And Mawlana Shaykh’s teaching is that everything from the Divine Presence opens in a direction. And for us that opening has to dress Prophet (s), from Prophet (s) it dresses the other prophets, dresses the holy Companions, dresses awliyaaAllah and then dresses all of Creation. There has to be a direction through which emanations are flowing. So if we want al-Fattah, and we want the Attribute of the Opening, then Allah Azzah wa jal is directing us to be with Nabi ar-Rahmah. “Be with the one in charge of that Rahmah, who is the manifestation of that Rahmah, and he is Rahma tun ‘lil `alameen (Mercy for all Creations), Sayyidina Muhammad (s).”
Surah 18:13 We narrate unto thee their story with truth. Lo! they were young men who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
So then they begin to describe that characteristic of Rahmah from the Cave and to be with Ashaab al-Kaaf, and to open that reality of eighteen, and to open that reality of good characteristics.
The Cave of Mercy Surah 18: 16 Wa-ithi Atazaltumoohum wamaya budoona illa Allaha fa/woo ila alkahfiyanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi wayuhayyi/ lakum minamrikum mirfaqa
And when ye withdraw from them and that which they worship except Allah,
then seek refuge in the Cave;
your Lord will spread for you of His mercy
and will prepare for you a pillow in your plight.
Mawlana Shaykh is teaching that everything about that Cave is different than our dunya material life. Everything from the reality of Ashaab al-Kahf is different than what we understand in the material world. And all they are preparing for us, is to have patience; have patience with good characteristics, this life will throw many tests at us and all that we are being asked is to have good character during the testing.
If we can have good character during the testing, then inshaAllah Allah Azzah wa jal will save us and make us to be with Ashaab al-Kaaf and to move into the reality of the Cave and begin to open up the reality of the third month. And the third month of Mawlid un-Nabi is to be in the presence of Rahmah tun ‘lil `alaameen, celebrating that light and that reality.
We pray that in this month we be protected through difficulties and calamaties and that Allah Azzah wa jal will be happy with us, Prophet (s) be happy with us, awliyaaAllah be happy with us and guide us, and dress us from their lights and dress us from their blessings and that they take away our bad characteristics and dress us from characteristics that Allah Azzah wa jal is pleased with. So we pray we can move into the reality of that Cave inshaAllah.
Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil izzatim amaa yasifoon wa salaamun `alal mursaleen wa ‘l-hamdulillahi Rabbil `alaameen. Al-Fatihah.

Sayedena Adam The Seal of Divine Wisdom in the Word of Adam Towards The Understanding
of The Greatness of The Eternal Messenger of Allah Sayedena Muhammad (S)
Adam
When Allah - glory be
to Him! - willed that the source of His most Beautiful Names - which
are beyond enumeration - be seen (or you can equally say that He willed
His source to be seen), He willed that they be seen in a microcosmic
being which contained the entire matter, endowed with existence, and
through which His secret was manifested to Him. For how a thing sees
itself through itself is not the same as how it sees itself in
something else which acts as a mirror for it. So He manifests Himself
to Himself in a form which is provided by the place in which He is
seen. He would not appear thus without the existence of this place and
His manifestation (tajalli) to Himself in it.
Allah brought the
entire universe into existence through the existence of a form fashioned
without a spirit (rûh), like an unpolished mirror.
Part of the divine
decree is that He does not fashion a locus without it receiving a
divine spirit, which is described as being "blown" into it.
This is nothing other
than the result of the predisposition of that fashioned form to receive
the overflowing perpetual tajalli which has never ceased and which
will never cease.
Then we must speak of the container (qâbil).
The container comes from nothing other than His most sacredly pure Overflowing.
So the whole affair has
its beginning from Him, and its end is to Him, and "the whole affair
will be returned to Him" (11:123) as it began from Him. Thus the
command decreed the polishing of the mirror of the universe.
Adam was the very polishing of that mirror and the spirit of that form.
The angels are some of the faculties of that form which is the form of the universe,
which the Sufis designate in their technical vocabulary as the Great Man (al-Insân al-Kabîr),
for the angels are to it as the spiritual (rûhânî) and sensory faculties are to the human organism.
Each of these faculties
is veiled by itself, and it sees nothing which is superior to its own
essence, for there is something in it which considers itself to be
worthy of high rank and an elevated degree with Allah.
It is like this because it has an aspect of the divine synthesis (jam'îya).
In it is something which derives from the divine side and something which derives from the side of the reality of the realities.
This organism carries
these attributes as determined by the universal nature which
encompasses the containers of the universe from the most exalted to the
basest.
However, the intellect cannot perceive this fact by means of logical investigation - for this sort of perception only exists through divine unveiling by which one recognizes the basis of the forms of the universe which receive the spirits.
This being was called both a human being (insân) and khalif.
As for his humanness, it comes from the universality of his organism and his ability to embrace all of the realities.
He is in relation to Allah as the pupil, being the instrument of vision, is to the eye.
This is why he is called Insân. It is by him that Allah beholds His creatures and has mercy on them.
So he is a human being, both in-time [in his body] and before-time [in his spirit], an eternal and after-time organism.
He is the word which distinguishes and unifies.
The universe was completed by his existence.
He is to the universe
what the face of the seal is to the seal - for that is the locus of the
seal and thus the token with which the King places the seal on his
treasures.
Man Sits Upon a Chair, Allah Sits Upon The Heart
Allah named him khalif for this reason, Eternally MuhammadRasulAllah
since man guards His creation as treasure is guarded with the seal.
As long as the seal of the King is on the treasure, no one dares to open it without his permission.
He made him a khalif in
respect of safeguarding the universe, and it continues to be guarded
as long as this Perfect Man is in it.
Do you not see then,
that when he disappears and is removed from the treasury of this world,
nothing that Allah stored in it will remain?
Everything that was in
it will leave it, and all the parts will become confused, and
everything will be transferred to the Next World.
Then Man will be the seal on the treasury of the Next World for endless time and after-time.
All the Divine Names contained in the divine form appear in this human creation{ Known as Muhammadan Reality}.
Thus it possesses the rank of containing and integrating this existence.
It was by this that
Allah set up the proof against the angels, so remember that! Allah
admonishes you through others. Look at where that originates and where
it ends up.
The angels did not
realize what was implied by the organism of the khalif, nor did they
realize what the presence of "The Truth" demanded as 'ibâda (worship).
Each one only knows from Allah what his essence accords him.
The angels do not
possess the universality of Adam, and they did not understand the
Divine Names with which he has been favored, and by which he praises
Allah and proclaims His purity.
They only knew that
Allah had names whose knowledge had not reached them, so they could not
praise Him nor proclaim His purity through them.
What we mentioned
overcame them and this state overpowered them. They said about this
organism, "Why put on it one who will cause corruption on it?" (2:30)
This is only the argument which they were voicing.
What they said regarding Adam is exactly the state they were with regard to Allah.
Had it not been that
their nature was in accord with it, they would not have said what they
said in respect of Adam, "and yet they were not aware."
If they had had true
recognition of themselves, they would have had knowledge, and had they
been in possession of knowledge, they would have been protected and
would not have resisted by belittling Adam and thus exceeding their
claim of what they possessed of His praise and glorification.
Adam was in possession
of Divine Names which the angels did not have, so that their praise and
glorification of Him was not the same as Adam's praise and
glorification of Him.
Allah describes this to
us so that we may ponder it and learn adab with Allah, and so that we
will not lay claim to what we have not realized or possessed by pinning
down.
How can we allege something which is beyond us and of which we have no knowledge?
We will only be
exposed. This divine instruction is part of Allahs discipline of those
of His slaves who are well-mannered, trusting and khalifs.
Let us return to the wisdom under discussion
Know that universal matters which have no existence in themselves are without a doubt intelligible and known in the mind.
They are hidden and
continue in their invisible existence. These universal matters have
jurisdiction and effect on everything which has an individual
existence. Indeed, they are the same thing and nothing else, i.e. the
sources of existent individual things, and they continue to be
intelligible in themselves.
They are manifest in
respect of the sources of existent things just as they are hidden in
respect of their intelligibility. Each individual existent thing
depends on these universal matters which cannot be dislodged from the
intellect, nor would their existence be possible in the source once
they ceased to be intelligible, whether that individual existent is
in-time or out-of-time.
The relationship of that
which is in-time or out-of-time to this universal intelligible matter
is the same. This universal matter only has jurisdiction in individual
existent things according to what the realities of these individual
existent things demand of it. It is like the relationship of knowledge
to the knower, and life to the living. Life is an intelligible reality;
knowledge is an intelligible reality. Knowledge is as distinct from
life as life is distinct from knowledge.
So we say that Allah has
knowledge and life, and that He is the Living, the Knowing. We also
say that the angel has life and knowledge, and is living and knowing.
We say that man has life and knowledge, and is living and knowing.
The reality of
knowledge is one thing and the reality of life is another, and their
relationship to the knowing and the living is the same relationship. We
say that the knowledge of Allah is in non-time and the knowledge of man
is in-time. So look at the evaluation that this relationship has
brought about in this intelligible reality!
Examine this connection
between individual intelligibles and stence is necessary, rather, it is
necessary by another, not by itself. As knowledge determines the one
who participates in it - as he is called knowing - so the one who is
described by it can determine the knowledge. It is in-time in relation
to the one in-time and non-time in relation to the one in non-time. Each
of the two is determining and determined. It is known that these
universal matters, even if they are intelligible, lack a source although
they still have an authority.
When they are
determined, since they are ascribed to an individual existent thing,
they accept the principle in the existent sources and do not accept
distinction or fragmenting, for that is impossible for them. They
themselves are in everything described by them, as humanity is in every
person of this particular species, without distinction or the
numbering which affects individuals; and it continues to be
intelligible.
Now, as there is a
connection between that which has an individual existence and that
which does not have one - and it is a non-existent relationship - so the
connection of existents to each other is easier to conceive because,
in any case, there is a common factor between them which is individual
existence. In the other, there is no common factor, yet there is a
connection despite the lack of a common factor. So it is stronger and
more real when there is a common factor. Without a doubt, the in-time
establishes itself as being put into time and it needs something in time
to put it into time. It has no place in itself so it exists from
something other-than-it, and it is linked to That by the dependence of
need.
This dependence must be
on That whose existence is necessary, which is independent in Its
existence by Itself without need. It is That which, by Its own essence,
gives existence to the in-time which depends on It. Since the
existence of Its essence is necessary and what appears from It depends
on It for its essence, it nevertheless depends on its form for
everything which is from a name or attribute, except for the essential
necessity. That is not the property of it in-time, even if its
existence is necessary, rather, it is necessary by another, not by
itself.
Since the matter is
based on what we said about its manifestation in its form, Allah
communicates to us knowledge of Himself through contemplation of the
in-time. He tells us that He shows us His signs in the in-time, so we
draw conclusions about Him through ourselves. We do not describe Him
with any quality without also possessing that quality, with the
exception of that essential autonomy. Since we know Him by ourselves
and from ourselves, we attribute to Him all that we attribute to
ourselves.
For that reason, divine
communications came down on the tongues of our interpreters, and so He
described Himself to us through ourselves. When we witness, He witnesses
Himself. We are certainly numerous as individuals and species, yet we
are based on a single reality which unites us. So we certainly know
that there are distinctions between individuals. If there were not,
there would be no multiplicity in the One.
Similarly we are
described in all aspects by that by which He describes Himself, but
there must be a distinction and it is none other than our need of Him
in our existence. Our existence depends on Him by virtue of our
possibility and He is independent of that which makes us dependent on
Him. Because of this, one can apply before-timeness and timelessness to
Him which negates that first ness which is the opening to existence
from non-existence. Although He is the First, first ness is not
ascribed to Him, and for this reason, He is called the Last. Had His
first ness been the first ness of the existence of determination, it
would not have been valid for Him to be the Last of the determined
because the possible has no last - for possibilities are endless. So
they have no last. Rather, He is the Last because "the whole affair
will be returned to Him" (11:123) after its attribution to us. So He is
the Last in the source of His first ness and the First in the source
of His last ness.
Then know that Allah
has described Himself as the Outwardly Manifest and the Inwardly
Hidden; He brought the universe into existence as a Visible world and an
Unseen world so that we might know the Hidden by the Unseen and the
Manifest by the Visible. He described Himself with pleasure and wrath,
and so He brought the world into existence as a place of fear and hope -
so we fear His wrath and hope for His pleasure.
He described Himself
with majesty and beauty, so He brought the universe into existence with
awe and intimacy. It is the same for all that is connected with Him,
may He be exalted, and by which He calls Himself. He designates these
pairs of attributes by the two hands which He held out in the creation
of the Perfect Man.
Man sums up all the realities of the universe and its individuals.
So the universe is seen and the Khalif is unseen.
It is with this meaning
that the Sultan veils himself, even as Allah is mentioned and
described as having with veils of darkness, which are natural bodies,
and luminous veils which are subtle spirits (arwâh).
The universe is composed of both the gross and the subtle.
The universe is its own veil on itself and cannot perceive the Truth since it perceives itself.
It is continuously in a veil which is not removed, since it knows that it is distinct from its Creator by its need of Him.
It has no portion of that essential necessity which belongs to the existence of Allah, so it can never perceive Him.
In this respect, Allah is never fully known by the knowledge of tasting and witnessing because the in-time has no hold on that.
Allah only applied "between His two hands"
to Adam as a mark of
honor, and so He said to Iblis, "What prevented you prostrating to what
I created with My two Hands?" (38:76)
That is none other than
the union in Adam of the two forms - the form of the universe and the
form of the Real "Al-Haqq": and they are the two hands of Allah.
Iblis is only a fragment
of the universe and does not possess this comprehensive quality. It is
because of this quality that Adam was a khalif.
Had he not had the form
of the One who appointed him khalif, he would not have been khalif. If
there were not in him all that is in the world, and what his flocks,
over whom he is khalif, demand of him because of their dependence on
him - (and he must undertake all they need from him) -he would not have
been khalif over them.
The khalifate is only
valid for the Perfect Man, whose exterior form comes from the realities
of the universe and its forms, and whose inner form is based on His
form, may He be exalted!
For that reason, Allah
has said of him, "I am his hearing and his sight." He did not say, "his
eye and his ear."{ Allah describing His Eternal Support of his Hearing
and not the physical ear..}
So He differentiated
between the two forms. It is the same for every existent in the
universe which appears according to what the reality of that existent
demands of it.
Nonetheless no one totally comprehends what the khalif has.
One only surpasses
others by this comprehensiveness. If it were not for the diffusion of
Allah into the existents by the form, the universe would not have any
existence.
Similarly, were it not
for these universal intelligible realities, no principle would have
appeared in individual existent things. From this reality the universe
depends on Allah for its existence.
So all is in need, and nothing is independent.
This is the truth and we have not spoken metaphorically.
If I speak of a something independent without any need, you will know Who I mean by it.
The whole is tied to the whole and cannot be separated from it, so understand what I have said!
Now, you have learnt of the formation of the body of Adam
his outer form - and the formation of his spirit, his inner form, so he is "The Real" and a created being.
Now you have learnt of
the formation of his rank which is the comprehensiveness by virtue of
which he is worthy of the khalifate.
Adam is the unique self
from which the perfect human species was created according to His
words, "O mankind, be fearful of your Lord who created you from a
single self, and created its mate from it, and disseminated many men
and women from the two of them." (4:1)
His words, "Be fearful
of your Lord," mean to make of what has appeared from you a safeguard
for your Lord and make what is concealed of you, which is your Lord, a
safeguard for yourselves.
The matter consists of
blame and praise, so be His safeguard in the blame and your safeguard
in the praise, so that you will be among those of knowledge and adab.
Then He showed him what
He had placed in him, and He put that in His two hands - one handful
contained the universe and the other handful contained Adam and his
descendants - and He showed them their ranks in Adam.
Then Allah informed me in my inner heart (Sirr)
of what He placed in
this Imam, the great progenitor. I have put in this book some of what
was allotted to me but not all of what I realized.
A book could not
contain that and not even the present existent universe could contain
it. I have put some of what I have witnessed in this book, as the
Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, defined
it. It was the divine wisdom in the word of Adam, that is, this
chapter.

Muhammad is but a Messenger (3:144)
That which is sent down to Muhammad (47:2)
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (48:29)
Muhammad bin Jubair has related that Allah's Messenger said: "I have several names; I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am al-Mahi by whom Allah the almighty will obliterate disbelief; and I am Hashir (the Gatherer) at whose feet people will gather together; I am Aqib that there will be no Prophet after me". Hudhaifa Radiallah anhu has reported that on one of the streets of Madina he met the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saws) who introduced himself thus: "I am Muhammad. I am Ahmad, I am Nabi-ur-Rahma (The Messenger of Mercy); I am Nabi-ut-Tauba (the Messenger of Repentance); I am Muqqafa (the last of the Prophets); I am Hashir (the Gatherer), and I am also Nabi-ul Malahim (the Prophet who unites the community by reforming them and by infusing love and harmony among them)". Holy Month of Hajj Pilgrimage to The Lord of Power
www.SufiMeditationcenter.com
From Sultan al Awliya
This year, Zulhijjah begins on the 6th Of Oct. The Prophet (saw) said: "There
are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah, than
these ten days. One fast during these ten days is equal to the fasting
of one complete year, and the worship of one night during this period is
equal to the worship in the Lailatul-Qadr." (Tirmizi). Let us learn more about these blessed 10 days!
Days
of Virtue and Righteous Deeds - Notes from Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani's
'Sufficient Provision for Seekers of the Path of Truth' as well as
from Maulana Shaykh Nazim's Suhbahs
Praise
be to Allah who has created time and made some times better than
others. Some months and days and nights are better than others, when
rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His servants. This
encourages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them more eager
to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater
share of reward, and to prepare himself for death in readiness for the
Day of Judgement.
This
season of worship brings many benefits, such as the opportunity to
correct one's faults and make up for any shortcomings or anything that
one might have missed. Every one of these special occasions involves
some kind of worship through which the servants may draw closer to
Allah, and some kind of blessing through which Allah bestows His favour
and mercy upon whomsoever He will. The happy person is the one who
makes the most of these special months, days and hours. He draws nearer
to his Lord during these times through acts of worship. He will most
likely be touched by the blessing of Allah and will feel the joy of
knowing that he is safe from the flames of Hell.
The virtue of these ten days of Zulhijjah is based on:
(1) Allah has preferred these 10 days over all the other days of the year. Ibn
'Abbas (ra) reported that the Prophet (saw) said: "There are no days
in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten
days." The people asked, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?" He
said, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a
man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the
cause, and came back with nothing."
(2) Allah swears an oath by them,
and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and
great benefit. Allah says in the Quran, "...by the dawn; by the ten
nights" (Surah Al-Fajr 89: 1-2). This refers to the first ten days of
Zulhijjah.
(3) The
Prophet (saw) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeh
("Subhan-Allaah"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah") and Takbeer ("Allahu
Akbar") during this time. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (ra) reported that the
Prophet (saw) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah
and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten
days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahlil ("La ilaaha
ill-Allah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed."
These
ten days include Yawm 'Arafah (the Day of 'Arafah, 9th Zulhijjah), on
which Allah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will
remove the sins of two years. These days also include Yawm al-Nahar
(the Day of Sacrifice, 10th Zulhijjah), the greatest day of the entire
year and the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a
way unlike any other day.
Among the good deeds, which the Muslim should strive to do during the first ten days of Zulhijjah, are:
(1) Fasting the first nine days,
especially on the 9th of Zulhijjah (Day of Arafah). The mother of the
believers, Hafsah (ra) reports that Rasulullah (saw) used to fast the
first nine days of Zulhijjah. For those not performing hajj, it is
desirable to fast on this day according to their own lunar calendar
dates of their own country. According to a hadith, the fast of this day
becomes a cause, hopefully so, of forgiveness for sins committed for
two years (the year before, and the year after).
When
the Prophet (saw) was asked regarding the fast on the day of Arafah,
he replied: "The fast on this day (will expedite) washes past years
sins, as well as the remaining years."
(2) Zikir.
It is Sunnah to say Takbeer ("Allahu Akbar"), Tahmeed ("Alhamdu
Lillaah"), Tahlil ("La ilaha ill-Allah") and Tasbeeh ("Subhan Allah")
during the first ten days of Zulhijjah, and to say it loudly in the
mosque, the home, the street and every place where it is permitted to
remember Allah and mention His name out loud, as an act of worship and
as a proclamation of the greatness of Allah, may He be exalted.
Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly.
Rasulullah (saw) said: "The best form of ibadah (acts of devotion) is to recite the Qur'an."
(3) Performing Hajj and 'Umrah.
One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to
perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah. The one whom Allah helps to
go on Hajj to His House and to Perform all the rituals properly is
included in the words of the Prophet (saw): "An accepted Hajj brings no
less a reward than Paradise."
(4) Doing more good deeds in general,
because good deeds are beloved by Allah and will bring a great reward
from Him. Whoever is not able to go to Hajj should occupy himself at
this blessed time by worshipping Allah, praying (salat), reading Quran,
remembering Allah, making supplication (du'a), giving charity,
honouring his parents, upholding the ties of kinship, enjoining what is
good and forbidding what is evil, and other good deeds and acts of
worship. Prophet (saw) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds
are more beloved to Allah than these ten days."
(5) Sacrifice (Qurban). Those who have enough wealth to pay Zakaat must offer the sacrifice for Allah, it is wajib in Mazhab Maliki, Hambali and Hanafi, and a very strong Sunnat in Mazhab Shafie. The Prophet (saw) said, "Whoever has the means to perform a sacrifice, but did not, let him not approach my mosque."
Choose
a high-quality animal, fatten it, spend money for the sake of Allah.
It is the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (as) and a strongly recommended
Sunnah. A lamb, sheep, goat , cow, buffalo, or camel can be offered as
the sacrifice. There are seven shares in a cow, buffalo and camel. The
sacrifice should be accomplished by slaughtering the animal after
Salaat-al-Eid. The sacrifice also called Udhiyah or Qurbani lasts for
four days from 10th Zulhijjah until the sunset of 13th Zulhijjah.
The
meat should be divided into three shares: one for the family, the
second for relatives and friend and the third share is for the poor and
the needy. Or all of the meat can be given to the needy, if that is
needed in the area you are doing the sacrifice.
Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) said: "On
the 10th of Zul-Hijjah, there is no better act in the view of Allah
than shedding the blood (of Slaughtered animals). And verily sacrifice
earns the approbation of Allah even before the drop of blood (of the
slaughtered animal) falls on the ground. Hence you should offer it in
good spirit (sincerely). For every hair of the sacrificial animal, there
is a blessing."
What must the Muslim avoid during these ten days if he wants to offer a sacrifice?
The
Sunnah indicates that the one who wants to offer a sacrifice must stop
cutting his hair and nails and removing anything from his skin, from
the beginning of the ten days until after he has offered his sacrifice,
because the Prophet (saw) said: "
When you see the new moon of Zulhijjah, if any one of you wants to
offer a sacrifice, then he should stop cutting his hair and nails until
he has offered his sacrifice."
Whoever
needs to remove some hair, nails, etc. because it is harming him, such
as having a broken nail or a wound in a site where there is hair,
should do so, and there is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing
wrong with men or women washing their heads during the first ten days
of Zulhijjah, because the Prophet (saw) only forbade cutting the hair,
not washing it.
The
wisdom behind this prohibition of the one who wants to offer a
sacrifice from cutting his hair etc, is so that he may resemble those in
ihram in some aspect of the rituals performed, and so that he may draw
closer to Allah by offering the sacrifice.
If
a person has cut his hair or nails during the first ten days of
Zulhijjah because he was not planning to offer a sacrifice, then he
decides later, during the ten days, to offer a sacrifice, then he must
refrain from cutting his hair and nails from the momen the makes this decision.
This prohibition appears to apply only to the one who is offering the sacrifice, not to his wife and children, unless
any of them is offering a sacrifice in his or her own right, because
the Prophet (saw) used to sacrificed "on behalf of the family of
Muhammad," but there are no reports that say he forbade them to cut
their hair or nails at that time.
(6) Sincere repentance.
One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to
repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and
sin. Repentance means coming back to Allah and foregoing all the deeds,
open and secret, that He dislikes, out of regret for what has passed,
giving it up immediately and being determined never to return to it, but
to adhere firmly to the Truth by doing what Allah loves.
If
a Muslim commits a sin, he must hasten to repent at once, without
delay, firstly because he does not know when he will die, and secondly
because one evil deed leads to another. Repentance at special times is
very important because in most cases people's thought turn towards
worship at these times, and they are keen to do good, which leads to
them recognizing their sins and feeling regret for the past.
Allah says: "But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful." (Surah Al-Qasas 28:67)
The Day of Arafah (9th Zulhijjah)
The
9th day of Zulhijjah is called 'Yawmul Arafah' (The Day of 'Arafah).
This is the date when the Hujjaj ( pilgrims) assemble on the plain of
'Arafat, six miles away from Makkah al-Mukarramah, where they perform
the most essential part of the prescribed duties of hajj, namely, the
'Wuqoof of Arafat (the stay in 'Arafat)'.
Beginning from the Fajr of the 9th Zulhijjah up to the 'Asr prayer of the 13th, it isobligatory on each Muslim to recite the Takbir of Tashreeq after every fard prayer in the following words. "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illallahu, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahilhamd."(There is no God but Allah and Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest and to Allah belongs all praise.)
Whether
one is performing salah with Jama'ah (collectively) or on one's own
(individually) makes no difference, one should recite the Takbir.
However, male Muslims should recite it in a loud voice, while females
should recite it in a low voice.
Practices of the Day of Arafah for those at Arafah
- For those going to Haj, they needn't fast on that day as they have many obligations to fulfill.
- They must complete the reading of the Kitab, al-Hizbul 'Azam, also known as the Supreme Daily Dzhikir, a collection of prayers from Qur'an and Hadees, by Mullah Ali Qari. They are to read it from beginning to end.
- They must not smoke cigarettes and sheesha.
- They must not engage in frivolous talk, haggling, quarreling, arguing or wrangling.
- They are to make fervent prayer (do'as/supplication), whilst pleading and weeping, seeking His Favours and Bounties.
If they do all these, they will emerge clean. If not, they will emerge (as dirty) as they entered Arafah.
Practices of the Day of Arafah for those not performing Haj
(1) Fast.
Remember fasting means that your tongue, eyes, and all organs, must
fast too, especially your heart. fasting on this day removes the sin of
the previous year, and of the year to come.
(2) Recite:
- 1000 Suratul Ikhlas, starting from morning and completing the reading before sunset, GrandShaykh Abdullah used to say this.
- La Ilaha illa Allahu Wah'dahu La Shariqa Lah Lahul Mulk wa Lahul Hamd Yuhyi wa Yumit wa Huwa ala Kulli Shay'in Qadir 100x.
- SubhanAllah, wal Hamdulilah, wa La Ilaha illallahu, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la Hawla wa la Quwwata illa Billah Al Aliyal Azim, 100x.
- Istighfar 100x.
- Salawat (salutations) on the Prophet (saw) 100x to 1000x.
You
may increase all the above recitations to more than the stated
numbers, and weep whilst you supplicate, beseeching Allah to grant you
His favours.
(3) Make do'a for Ummah of Rasulullah (saw) and for our beloved Shaykh Nazim.
Shaykh Nazim said, "Pray
for me that I am not placed in a position to be in need of anyone,
pray that I am not confined to my bed, pray that I am not humiliated
amongst people, pray that the love of Islam is always in our hearts,
and that we are under the banner of Islam, here and hereafter."
(4) Perform Solat al-Khusama, preferably, between Zuhur and Asar (see explanation below)
Celebration of Eidil Adha
The Night Preceding 'Eid-ul-Adha' (10th Zulhijjah)
It
had been the practice of the Prophet (saw), that he would not sleep in
the night preceding the day of Eid-ul-Adha. Almighty grants all
do'as/prayers in this night. Therefore, it is desirable to perform much
do'as/prayers and worship in this night. The Prophet (saw), is reported
to have said: "Whoever
stands up (in worship) in the nights preceding the two Eids expecting
rewards from his Lord, his heart will not die when the other hearts
will die." (Ibn Majah)
Hence
one should not be busy shopping, cooking, decorating or partying on
this night, it is a Night Allah looks at His Servants and grants their
needs.
On Eidul Adha / Hari Raya Haji itself
(1) Before going to Eid prayer, it is Sunnah to bathe, brush teeth, wear your best clothes and for men to put on perfume.
(2) It is forbidden to fast on this day, but you are not to eat before performing the Eid prayers. Eat only after Eid prayers or after the sacrifice, if you are doing a sacrifice.
(3) Given
the choice of praying at the mosque or at a Multi Purpose hall,
stadium or open space, choose the latter. The Prophet (saw) did not
perform Solat Eidul Adha at the Mosque, he held it at the open ground, so it is a Sunnah to do that.
(4) Go early for Eid prayers.
(5) Women and children are also encouraged to join in the
festivities by going to that gathering. Even menstruating women may
go, and although they cannot pray, they can listen to the Eid Khutbah.
(6) In
the Eid prayer, the Khutbah is after the prayer (unlike Friday prayers
when the Khutbah is before the prayer). Do not talk during the Khutbah
- listen respectfully, as if it were the Prophet (saw) speaking to you
from the mimbar.
(7) The
Eid Solat is a two raka'at prayer. It is identical to any other 2
raka'at prayer except that there are some extra takbirs (Allahu akbar)
inserted in each raka'at. In the first ra'ka'at, between the Takbiratul
ihram and Suratul Fatihah, there are 7 additional takbirs. In the
second raka'at, before reading Suratul Fatiha, there are 5 additional
takbirs. (This is for followers of Mazhab Shafi'e) Intention: I am
performing my Solat Sunnat Eidul Adha prayer, 2 raka'at, for the sake
of Allah.
(8) Return home by a different route from which you came. This is also a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw).
(9) If
you missed the prayer at the mosque because you woke up late, you may
pray this Solat Eid at home, on your own. Just make the intention, and
pray a two raka'at prayer, remembering to add the 7 extra takbirs in
the first raka'at, and the 5 extra takbirs in the second raka'at. The
prayer can be done anytime from 15 minutes after sunrise to just before
the azan of Solat Zuhur. Once past the azan of Zuhur, the time for the
Eid Solat has lapsed.
(10) Spend
the day in good acts, like zikir, charity, the best good deed of which
is to perform Qurban. It is an important Sunnah to perform Qurban every year.
(11) The
Prophet (saw) summarised how we should spend Eid (Hari Raya) in a
beautiful hadees, "Decorate your Eid (Hari Raya) with Takbir (Allahu
akbar), Tahmid (Alhamdulillah), Tahlil (Lailahaillallah) and Tasbih
(Subhanallah)."
(12) Solat al-Khusama can
also be done on this day (and also on the day before),
preferably between Zuhur prayers and Asar. Taught by Shaykh Abdul Qadir
Jilani (q), it is a 4 raka'at prayer, done at one go with one salam at
the end. It is done, so that the reward of it is donated to all people
whom you have harmed and sinned against, so that Allah will use the
reward to satisfy their claims on the Day of Resurrection, if He so
wills.
It is done as follows:
- 1st raka'at: Surah al-Fatihah, followed by Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul hu Allau ahad) 11 times
- 2nd raka'at: Surah al-Fatihah, followed by Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul hu Allau ahad) 10 times, and Surah al-Kafiroon, 3 times
- 3rd raka'at: Surah al-Fatihah, followed by Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul hu Allau ahad) 10 times, and Surah al-Takathur (Alha kumu takathur), 1 time. Surah al-Takathur is Surah number 102.
- 4th raka'at: Surah al-Fatihah, followed by Surah al-Ikhlas (Qul hu Allau ahad) 15 times, and Ayatul Kusi 1 time.
Then
donate the spiritual reward of the performance of this prayer, to all
those enemies who will have a claim against you on Judgement Day.
This solat must be done on 7 specific occasions:
- on the first night of Rajab
- on the night of the middle of Sha'ban (15th Sha'ban)
- on the last Friday of Ramadhan
- on Idul Fitri (Hari Raya Puasa, 1st Syawal))
- on Idul Adha (Hari Raya Haji, 10th Zulhijjah)
- on the Day of Arafah (9th Zulhijjah)
- on the day of Ashura (10th Muharram)
